Is this a beautiful squash plant or not? But can you see squash? NO WAY, JOSE.
Oh, well, I guess I have to take up my place under the bed because that mother turtle is banging on her kitchen pans again to call in the little turtles out of the rain, or at least that was mama’s mama told her was happening when she got nervous about thunder. Actually it doesn’t bother me really; I like being under the bed, so there!
But it’s great for the garden and maybe that no-good squash plant will put out some food after this! It is HUGE and has the most beautiful leaves imaginable, but does it make squash? In your dreams…
Still, the flowers are going to be pretty tasty, stuffed with an anchovy and a piece of mozzarella and deep fried in a light batter. See, I’m learning to cook, finally, and mama loves having a sous chef to do all the dirty work—chopping, peeling, washing salad greens, all those little pissant jobs no one really wants to do.
But I love peeling things. I’ve figured out a way to do it efficiently and well.
I just use my teeth!
Get those carrots over here; I’ll take care of them.
HAH! I did the onions, too, but I have to go get a Kleenex…
We try not to do veggies…though Ernie has been known to eat peas. 😉
HE EATS PEAS??? WOW. I ate some oatmeal last week as mama laughed the whole time but it really helped my constitution….
Your mom makes you peel onions, Loulou? We let Jan do that kind of stuff since she’s the servant. 🙂
Oh, boy, I am going to have to take you guys in HAND!!!
Secret from my salad days (no, I really did make salads in a restaurant for a year when I was college age): wash the onion and keep dipping your knife in a glass of water or rinsing the knife over the sink. Yes, it really works! No tears!
They wouldn’t like the salad maker crying over her salad ingredients, would they?
Wonderful advice!!! And I rub my paws on stainless steel to take off the garlic smell. Mama has one of those “soap” bars in metal for that purpose. Thank you for the great tip.
