Hey, can this guy bake a pie?
Well, mama was so tickled this morning when she read that there are schools in China opening for MEN to learn more about women and how to treat them. Mama had that idea one day about a decade ago and wanted to call it School for Scoundrels and it would be classes in which men would learn how to court women, treat women with respect and learn manners that would strengthen their characters and make them more attractive to women.
But she never opened it.
She had the idea because she was teaching cooking classes to lots of women and they got into discussions about much more than food and she saw a serious opportunity to start these schools that would help both men and women get along better together with the tenet that real men are not afraid to be vulnerable and soft at times. Real men cry. Real men change diapers. Real men clean up after themselves. Real men listen to their partners.
Hey, even I know how to change a diaper!
Personally, I love the name School for Scoundrels, which mama thought up before the movie was made later with the same name. Turning scoundrels or would-be scoundrels into charming, elegant, masculine-yet-tender, commanding-yet-compromising, empathetically understanding-yet firm in their autonomy, specimens of manhood to stand up to any powerful male culture on the planet, simply because of one thing: THEY WOULD KNOW HOW WOMEN FEEL AND THINK AND KNOW HOW TO RESPOND GENEROUSLY TO THE OPPOSITE SEX WITHOUT ALWAYS BEING ON AN EGO TRIP was her goal.
Needless to say, mama never got around to it and went off to do other things, but at least it was a fun idea. And now, in China, evidently, men with basketballs under their shirts are walking around for a day in public to know just exactly what pregnant women go through when someone pushes them or gets in their way or doesn’t give them the proper polite treatment in a crowd and so on.
So interesting. Learning how to be a good father and husband, too, is the movement that is called “masculine morality.”
Unfortunately the article was in La Repubblica in Italian but the gist of it was that men should certainly (!) stop beating their wives (now a crime in China), stop abusing their wives at all, verbally or otherwise, and learn how to empathize with being a pregnant woman or simply a married woman who needs an equal partner.
As they say in Italian, in bocca al lupo, good luck, I hope it works. Being a single kitty I don’t have problems with tomcats, but the one who lives in our house certainly follows a kind and generous path toward all people and kitties, male or female. We are so lucky.
Time for your bath, Loulou.
Bath? What bath? Are you nuts? I do my own bathing! I’m outta here…
All I know is real men love cats 🙂 I am glad my hubby does.
YES, YES, YES!!! I should put that in the text!!! Papa is definitely a real dude! I forgot to say that that photo is not papa, but close…just kidding.
