The blue mosque–Turkey
Celebrating the upset
Papa read me this morning’s news about the young Kurdish group in Turkey that got 13% of the votes recently and who are reformists, promising women their rights, among other changes in Turkey’s politics. Whether this new party will have clout remains to be seen, but there might be a coalition formed through which they could try to achieve their goals.
But it started mama wondering: why do we have to fight so long and hard for rights for women, for gays, for transgender, for people of color, for children and so many others?
Why aren’t these “rights” just part of our everyday lives?
When the word ‘gay’ or ‘women’s rights’ or any of the other words pertaining to a struggle to have human beings be equal are simply NOT in our vocabulary, then we will know that we have really achieved equality on this earth.
Mark Twain hated the word ‘exclusive’, and mama thinks that word pretty much reinforces prejudice and racism and unjust acts toward others. Then again, I suppose there are places where white and straight people would not be welcome, and would be excluded.
A complicated and many-layered problem.
I’m going to think about that.
This is me, thinking. Can’t you tell?
Loulou, you look like you’re thinking when your next meal will be. 😉
Now, I wouldn’t be doing THAT, now would I?
Take a break and rest well, Loulou. If your brain is like Jan’s it can only think for so long before it needs a nap.
You guys had better learn where your BREAD IS BUTTERED and be nice to Jan, provider, protector and provoker!!!!
It’s the young who will save the earth Loulou. It’s going to take a while for some folk to drag their sorry backsides into the current century. Just think about mousies in your garden, you will have nice dreams

Let’s hope. There is a wonderful story in the NYT about transgender acceptance in HIGH SCHOOLS. Where the youth are. You are right that the youth will prevail in solving some of these hassles that old f..ts insist on maintaining.
