A beautiful soul
Well, since All Souls Day is upon us, I wanted to put this portrait of mama’s mama-in-law in my diary today because I know that she was a very good soul and mama has been wanting to paint her kind soul for a while now.
Then, again, mama says she doesn’t really know what a soul is but she does know that some people have souls and music has soul and she cooks soul food so I guess a soul is a good thing, that is if you have a good one.
Sometimes when I read the news about the poor immigrants, men, women, and especially children, dying on the shores of Greece without anyone to save them and read about the avarice and greed in the world, I wonder if there might not be a few really evil souls around along with the good ones. And I wonder if those people really have souls after all?
Mama’s mama used to say “She was such a good soul” about someone who was loving and kind and thoughtful but then her mama would say, “Oh, poor soul, he just lost his wife” and then mama would hope that his soul would not be lonely but she really didn’t understand what it was all about. She was only five.
Maybe you don’t have to know what a soul is, really. Everyone’s is different, and I know that MY soul feels really good in my body. Maybe that’s all that matters. Does yours?
