Mama, I smell something cookin’…
Well, I really meant to say, “Soup’s on”, but it was so funny in French I just went for it, and quite frankly, I have my suspicions sometimes about what mama is thinking when she starts a broth! Remember Macbeth and the witches? Whatever that was…
Okay, scratch that.
The thing is, mama is a fanatic for soup in winter, and as I mentioned before, everything in the fridge that is leftover goes into the pot.
Well, not the chocolate truffles, which she forgot to serve, along with the almond crisps, but that’s another story…
SO…onion, celery, carrots, anise bulb, garlic, tomatoes, carrot juice from cooking carrots, any juice from cooking anything (except frogs), lemon juice, potatoes, rice, pasta, a small bit of chicken coconut milk curry, a couple of slices of green mango, a bit of butter mixed with capers that mama uses for smoked salmon canapés, cilantro, parsley, fresh pepper (actually, mama’s is mixed Chinese and normal grains, who knows why?), salt to taste, and frankly, I’m tired of writing all of these things down, so that’s IT!
Still, it smells awfully good as it simmers…
Uh, mama, you forgot the white wine…
Was it in that glass next to you?
Sounds really tasty. Wish we were there to try some
Just open the fridge, put everything in a pot and simmer.
Yes, we wish you were here, too.
Your mom is a really good cook. Ours likes to order out too much.
Well, around here, even if we wanted to, there’s very little take-out. But mama LOVES to cook.
Sounds yummy, Loulou. Soup is the best in winter.
Yes, and that stew of your grandma may be next!
Ooooh – we had SOUP, well, your Mama’s Bourride recipe (without tomatoes) and it was DELICIOUS!!! I got a few bits of fish. The rest went into the freezer for later with more fish and seafood to be added. YUMMMM!!! I guess they were preparing me for the week – Vet today, Animal Paradise (what a misnomer) for bath and coiffure tomorrow. Oh, what a Dog’s Life I lead……
Well, better than in the dog house after waking from a dream and scratching mama….
We have soups in the winter too Loulou!
Hey, share your recipes!!!!
Oh – too bad your Mama forgot to serve those tasty desserts ! More leftovers !
Well, she had made a Capri Cake so no one starved, haha. We gave truffles to friends for New Years.
