Mama, I smell something cookin’…

Well, I really meant to say, “Soup’s on”,  but it was so funny in French I just went for it, and quite frankly, I have my suspicions sometimes about what mama is thinking when she starts a broth!  Remember Macbeth and the witches?  Whatever that was…

Okay, scratch that.

The thing is, mama is a fanatic for soup in winter, and as  I mentioned before, everything in the fridge that is leftover goes into the pot.

Well, not the chocolate truffles, which she forgot to serve, along with the almond crisps, but that’s another story…

SO…onion, celery, carrots, anise bulb, garlic, tomatoes, carrot  juice from cooking carrots, any juice from cooking anything (except frogs), lemon juice, potatoes, rice, pasta, a small bit of chicken coconut milk curry, a couple of slices of green mango, a bit of butter mixed with capers that mama uses for smoked salmon canapés, cilantro, parsley, fresh pepper (actually, mama’s is mixed Chinese and normal grains, who knows why?), salt to taste, and frankly, I’m tired of writing all of these things down, so that’s IT!

Still, it smells awfully good as it simmers…

Uh, mama, you forgot the white wine…

Was it in that glass next to  you?
