(Hey, is this mint for mojitos?)
Well, I’m out in the sun all the time, in those spots of light and warmth on the tiles, and I could lie there all day (and often do), but mama and papa are really careful these days about basking in sunlight, whatever basking is, and it’s so pretty here right now.
You see, long ago, mama says, when she was young and dumber than now (oops, sorry), she and her friends lay in the sun using only baby oil mixed with iodine for a sun lotion. I’m sure, mama says, this will sound like the dark ages, and yes, well, it does. Now even little anthros are slathered in sun creams and wearing little pairs of dark glasses and mama thinks that’s so cute. But it’s for real, and so, so smart.
And that’s why she and papa can’t go out on our beach and loll on a nice towel under our Mediterranean sun and stay there for hours, just dipping in the sea every now and then. It causes problems…
Mama says there is less protection from the sun than there used to be, so I’m going to look that up.
Papa long ago in the sun.
Mama, long ago in sun, digging a hole. Digging a hole? Those spots are NOT bad things, they are part of a damaged photo slide! Whatever that is.
Sounds nice, right? Well, not the sea part. You won’t catch ME out there.
But there’s a bit of nostalgie going around in the house about those summer days with just enough tan to feel tingly and nice and then a cool breeze or a lemonade or mama says, a mojito, whatever that is.
Still, they do sit under an umbrella on the patio, and at least they don’t lack for mojitos. They give me my water bowl so I won’t feel left out.
Gee, thanks, you two.
Couldn’t I have a Shirley Temple?
Our mom used to do the same kind of stuff…baking herself in the sun. But not so much anymore.
Maybe she and my mama got smarter. So awful for the peau! Think how young your mama and my mama would look if they hadn’t done that….I think.
Ah LouLou, your pawrents are so gawjus. Almost as gawjus as you. Have fun. Big hugs
Luv ya’
Dezi and Raena
Well, those photos are over 35 years old!!!
Oooh – I don’t like the (direct) sun either when it’s hot. So, I ride around in my poussette, with the mesh top covering my voluptuous bod. That’s what we are, Loulou – voluptuous!! And Mama pushes me with her face covered in sunscreen and a big hat. And just like your mama – baby oiled and iodined herself in her misspent youth – on the beautiful Florida and Mexican beaches. Payback Time with all those pesky wrinkles!!
I have never seen a wrinkle on YOU, Mya. Maybe our mamas need some advice from us! I only really space out in the shade. And yes, voluptuous is our description, NOT chubby.
I used to use baby oil too, never heard of adding iodine.
That was for color!
Jan says she has no desire to go lie in the sun at her age. Sitting in the shade of a fan or air conditioner would be more to her taste today.
HEAR, HEAR says mama. With a nice cool glass of H2O.
Momma lathers up with lotions to when she is outside and even during overcast days, ’cause she says she burns easily. She used to to the same thing your momma did – sunbathe with oils. EEK! Thank goodness you have a nice coat to purr-tect your skin when you’re in your garden, Loulou. Winks.
Yes, I have sort of a black and white tan…
Oh LouLou – I lived on a farm when I was a kid, so I still have to periodically check in with a dermatologist (whatever that is) and she is still “TSK”ing me about stuff from 65 years ago. But I do appreciate the shade now !
Those dermos can really put the guilt trips out, can they not? But mama’s mama warned her……ah, youth.
