Well, if there is anything better to cheer up a sad mama, I don’t know it. The market here is so very beautiful and so full of lovely autumn mushrooms and wonderful cross-bred apples–red Granny Smiths, for example–and so many vegetables just aching to be sautéed with garlic and hot peppers and tossed with pasta.
Cepes (brush with olive oil and grill) and chanterelles (toss in flour, salt and pepper and sauté) abound.
Mama’s neighbour has been gone for a few days. He just may be coming home with wild mushrooms the way he did last year!
Hey, you could dress up a few martinis with those olives, no? And the yellow cooked fava beans can become an addiction. Mama actually gave me some to try once. Uh, I think I’ll stick to the roast duck that is sold along with travers de porc, poulets, saucisses, canette and little roast potatoes twice a week in our magic market. (Pork ribs, roast chickens, grilled sausages and of course, MY duck lunch)
Mama’s spices come from Dominique, who also has bath sponges from the sea and vegetable soaps.
I can see that mama is cheered up a bit today. So many nice people in the market, so many smiles. It all helps.
I help, too.
The mom says all those veggies look great! She wishes there was an outdoor market like that near us.
Well, they seem to be springing up all over the place and I hope one finds you all there. Perhaps it’s more difficult on an island…

Hmmm, lots and lots of edibles. Where are the cat chewies?
I haven’t actually BEEN in the market but I hear things….
