(NO TRIPE!!!)

You know, it’s true that I may be a finicky eater and I’m a bit embarrassed about that because mama says that anthro kids who are picky are that way because their anthro parents didn’t insist that they taste everything and then ask them to think about whether they really like it or dislike it or are just being difficult.

Certainly kids are different genetically and mama knows kids who ate smoked salmon and chicken liver paté and asparagus with hollandaise from the age of three.  In fact, ust last night at La Sagrestia for pizza, a kid next to mama was eating a bruschetta of smoked salmon and onions!

But everyone says that cooking with a wok is good for your health. If I were a Chinese cat, I’d know more about this, but mama has used a wok many times and does great fast dishes with very little oil or fat for those who watch those things (I use olive oil on my food, organic and cold-pressed from the farm of the restaurant owner downstairs—lucky me!).

I help mama with little green onions, skinned chicken breast or raw shrinp, a small garlic clove and a stalk or two of celery, all chopped fine (and it is “fine”, cookbook writers, NOT finely, which is not good English and no one seems to know that, but what the heck…mama fought for it in her cookbooks and won). Then you put some olive oil or peanut oil in the wok and cook all the ingredients quickly, adding a grate or two of fresh ginger, a splash of soy sauce and sesame oil, and a nice handful of chopped cilantro to finish it off. All of this should take only about 5-6 minutes. Mama makes a fluffy white basmati rice to go with it or thin Chinese  noodles.

I happen to like all foods, except tripe, but that’s because it is not too plentiful around this house. I hear it’s great in menudo. When mama and papa sailed with a club, years ago, they went to Catalina Island in cold weather and a nice hot bowl of that Mexican specialty was very welcome. I’m sure that cats on boats eat it, too.

So take a wok for health, haha!
