Wikipedia: War Between The States
Yes or no on the presence of Confederate flags in public places and government? This kitty is thinking hard about this one.
Well, surely not in government nor in school classrooms or anywhere that the flag will offend. And yet, is there any place it will not offend, given what it stands for?
But to remove all symbols of the flag, one would have to change textbooks, historical information pamphlets, so many, many sources that contain any history of the war between the south and north, that it would become a never-ending task that might perhaps create more controversy where peaceful agreement is needed.
Papa thinks that attempts of total removal of the Confederate flag might be counterproductive and possibly make the flag a martyr. And he is very good at seeing both sides of a dilemma. But to remove the flag from government offices and public display should definitely be an issue.
The fact is that the Confederate flag symbolizes a very painful and inhuman chapter in American history—the enslavement of individuals against their will and the horrendous treatment of slaves by some.
So sad that it took the murder of nine people to raise this issue nationally for the first time. But mama was touched that several Republicans are asking for removal of the flag in many areas.
Racism still exists in our country, and there is the simple fact that our southern states generate a large share of it, still clinging to the hatred generated because of beliefs that fellow humans should be the slaves of others.
But guess what? The war is over. If only we could end the present one.
I wish we could live together peacefully as some of my friends do…
Mississippi has the Confederate flag incorporated in it’s State Flag so we now have people saying our State Flag shouldn’t be flown with the other flags at the U.S. capital. Mississippi’s Governor says he will stand by the vote of the taxpayers of MS to keep the flag (well our choice was a really ugly flag or keeping the current flag, no surprise no one wanted the ugly flag) and now we see where Apple is pulling all Confederate History games from their app store. And I guess we will no longer be able to watch the Dukes of Hazard on TV.
But no one is talking about getting rid of guns, making it harder for people like the shooter to get guns or anything sensible. People are very weird.
Yes, one cannot take the symbol out of every place it has been since the war, and gun control is FAR more important than flag-management. When will Americans realize that guns are a major issue in so many crimes and acts of hatred. Wake up, America. I think, however, that if the Democrats win, there will be major reform on guns.
All the little apes are born loving, sociable and non violent so why can’t they be more like we cats and stay that way? If there’s any trub, we sort it out once and will do anything to avoid the big fight. Looks like humans are the only animals not to do this.
Flag poles make very good scratching posts and if flags were made of wool they’d be great kitty bed blankets.

Mungo & Jet
GREAT IDEAS!! I’d rather sleep under the stars and stripes, though, than that other one. Or the Italian or French flag. They’re pretty. Or maybe just a Mungo/Jet original design….
